Unemployment was down in the south-central Illinois region for February, according to information from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. They say over-the-year, the unemployment rate decreased in eleven metro areas and increased in one for the year ending in February 2025.
The February unemployment rate for some area counties included: Clay County at 5.1 percent, Jefferson County at 4.5 percent, and Marion County at 4.5 percent.
Industries that saw job growth in the majority of the twelve metro areas included: Private Education and Health Services, Government, Retail Trade, and Mining and Construction, Transportation, Warehousing and Utilities, and Financial Activities.
