DELAYS PERSIST IN CASE OF FORMER WABASH COUNTY DEPUTY

By Mark Wells Apr 11, 2025 | 11:57 AM

The court case involving former Wabash County Sheriff’s Deputy Chase Cheadle has encountered yet another delay. During a preliminary hearing yesterday, special prosecutor Brian Towne and defense attorney Jonathan Turpin jointly agreed to postpone the proceedings for two months. Cheadle is now scheduled to return to court on June 12th  at 9 AM.

This marks the fifth consecutive month that Cheadle’s preliminary hearing has been delayed, with the first postponement dating back to November 14th. Cheadle, who served as the sheriff’s department’s canine handler, faces multiple serious charges, including four counts of official misconduct, one count of theft, one count of cruelty to animals, and two counts related to animal owner duties. Notably, five of these eight charges are classified as felonies.

The case stems from an incident last July when Cheadle found his canine partner, Kiki, unresponsive. Following an investigation, he was arrested and subsequently resigned from the sheriff’s department on August 8th. The ongoing delays in the court proceedings leave the community awaiting resolution in this significant case.
