The Wayne County Republican Party met on Thursday, April 3rd in the basement boardroom of the Wayne County Courthouse.
State Representative Dave Severin attended as a guest, providing updates on current legislation. He fielded numerous questions from attendees regarding bills moving through the legislature. Notably, States Attorney Ellis engaged Severin on new laws affecting the roles and responsibilities of State Attorneys.
County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow also addressed the group, seeking Severin’s insights on various issues impacting County Clerks and Recorders. She reported on the recent Consolidated Election results, highlighting the importance of civic engagement.
Chairman Ron Woodrow reminded attendees of upcoming community events, including a car show sponsored by the Lions Club, the Cisne Reunion, Fall Fun Fest, and Wayne City Bean Days. He encouraged everyone to participate and emphasized the importance of community involvement. Woodrow also invited members to share information about other local events.
Looking ahead to the 2026 election year, Woodrow outlined the positions up for election, including County Board, Supervisor of Assessments, Treasurer, and Clerk & Recorder. He announced that there would also be an election for the resident judge in Wayne County. Woodrow stressed the need to inspire individuals to run for office, particularly encouraging younger community members to get involved.
As County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow prepares for retirement after her term, one candidate has emerged to run for her position. However, Chairman Woodrow expressed hope that more individuals would step forward to seek these offices. He emphasized the importance of gearing up for an active fall campaign season in support of Republican candidates.
The meeting concluded with Woodrow announcing plans for the upcoming gun raffle, seeking items for the annual event and preparing to print tickets.
The next meeting of the Wayne County Republicans is scheduled for Thursday, May 1st at 6 PM in the basement boardroom of the Wayne County Courthouse. All community members are welcome to attend.
