Rivers Update

Area rivers are expected to crest this weekend, if they haven’t already, following last week’s heavy rainfall.

The Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 28.7 feet as of this morning.  Flood stage is 17 feet.  At Clay City the stage is 20.01 feet.  Flood stage is 18 feet.  At Carmi the stage is 36.89 feet, above the 27-foot flood stage and at or near record levels.  The Skillet Fork at Wayne City reads 7.27 feet.  Flood stage is 15 feet.  The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 30.94 feet.  Flood stage is 19 feet.  The Ohio River at Old Shawneetown is more than 18 feet above flood stage as of this morning, at 51.51 feet.

Mainly dry conditions is expected the next few days, other than a small chance for rain Monday morning, and some more rain chances around midweek.  Extended forecasts are showing below normal temperatures through April 21st and near normal precip, with a chance of above normal temperatures in the 8 to 14 day outlook, running April 19th to 25th.
