Joseph “Joe” Franklin Hosick, Jr.,76 of Enfield born on May 13, 1948, in Eldorado, Illinois, joined his parents, Joseph and Zella Hosick, on April 4, 2025. Joe, whose infectious laugh filled the room, spreading joy to everyone around him, loved a good steak and cigar. Not only was Joe a fine fisherman, but he could also throw a baseball, football, etc., farther than most and enjoyed a good game of catch. Joe was an avid moviegoer who enjoyed taking his granddaughters to at least one movie when he visited (sneaking candy into the theater and sneaking ice cream afterward). He was also a music lover, a natural and highly adept stringed instrument player, especially guitars and ukuleles. He purchased several instruments for his children and grandchildren to share this love. He had a great voice, but his inability (or unwillingness) to sing a song in the correct key made it challenging to accompany him. Some of us will say this was on purpose. Joe enjoyed working with his hands. From tinkering on cars to leather crafts, he was all about it if it required his hands. The more challenging, the better, as Joe never liked to back down from a challenge. This is one of the many wonderful traits he passed on to his children. He also loved his classic Mustangs, having once traveled halfway across the country to purchase one based solely on the description. Joe appreciated competitive card games, especially Crazy Eights and Poker, which he enjoyed immensely in his retirement era, along with a good game of pool. Although Joe had many charitable passions, he loved his work with Toys for Tots, having served as the county coordinator for over 10 years. He was constantly trying to convince others to get involved with the program.
Amongst those who will miss him are his wife of 44 years, Jeri, who loved him madly and deeply, his children Jason (Stephanie) Hosick and Emilie Hosick, and her partner Adriana. Three grandchildren: Beth Hosick, Alannah (Jon) Smock and Katie Hosick along with his bonus grandchildren Justin and Juliana. . Two great-granddaughters, Isabel and Amelia. As well as his two cats Panda and Honey. Additionally, Joe is survived by his five siblings and their spouses: Kelly (Janet) Hosick of Norris City, IL, Marilyn (John) Staples, Michael (Barbara) Hosick, Susan (Pat) Cates, and Cinde (Steve) Gauntt, all of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the General Baptist Church in Enfield on May 15 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Toys for Tots or the local ASPCA.
