Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Alexi Giannoulias has announced the allocation of over $1.3 million in grants to 2,484 public school libraries across Illinois. These grants, awarded annually in the spring, aim to enhance library services for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

The funding supports a wide range of resources and programs, including books, e-books, audiobooks, periodicals, multilingual materials, technology, and various educational programs. The grants are distributed based on a statutory formula, providing $0.885 per student enrolled at each school with a qualifying library.  Among those locally receiving funds include; Fairfield Community High School, Fairfield Grade School District, Geff, Edwards County School District and Grayville, all receiving $850.

Funding for this initiative comes from the state’s General Revenue Fund and is allocated by the Illinois General Assembly.
