Loyd A. Koertge, son of Robert and June Vandever Koertge, was born March 26, 1950, delivered at home by Dr. Nierenberg. He passed away at the age of 73 on March 1, 2024, at his home in Bone Gap, Illinois.
Loyd was involved in many activities during his life. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church of West Salem, Illinois. Loyd lived on his family farm, where he farmed for many, many years and ran his own skid steer business. He also worked at Champion Laboratories previously. He was a former member of Illinois Farm Bureau, Bone Gap Fire Department, the Bone Gap Chowder Committee, and the Scuba Diving Club.
In his free time, Loyd enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler, playing Rook, watching football, attending sporting events, and camping with his grandkids. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his children and grandchildren; he attended many ballgames throughout his life and supported them in all that they did, showing up at their events as long as he was able to do so. His grandkids were his life!
To know Loyd was to love him. He was often silly, but occasionally came up with some great ideas. He was usually up for anything, which sometimes included taking several random trips without telling anyone. He lived his life to the fullest. He will be missed dearly by those that knew him and loved him.
Loyd is survived by his three children, Ryan (Erin) Koertge, Aubrey (Ryan) Seibert, and Stephanie (Todd Hazelrigg) Koertge; his grandchildren, Drew Seibert, Elijah, Benjamin, Gideon, and Stella Koertge, Owen, Bree, Lillian and Macey Hazelrigg. Also surviving are his sisters, Helen (Sam) Kershaw and Lynda (Larry) Seals. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Kelvin (Christine) Kershaw, Kyle (Valeri) Kershaw, Aaron (Angel) Seals, and Theresa (Mike) Sutton. He also leaves behind many other family and friends that were very important to him, especially his old classmates. He was also quite fond of his foreign exchange “grandson”, Tobias Reineke from Germany; and his beloved dog, Harvey.
Loyd was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and June Koertge; his step-mother Faye Koertge; his grandparents; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation for Loyd Koertge will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Zion Church in West Salem, Illinois. Funeral to follow at 6:00 PM. All family and friends are welcome to come celebrate the life of Loyd.
Burial will be at the Bone Gap Cemetery.
Memorials in the name of Loyd Koertge can be made to the Bone Gap Chowder or the Bone Gap Fire Department and will be accepted at the church during services.
