Laura “Christi” Christine Burns, 53, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:45 pm May 3, 2024 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born March 18, 1971 in Akron, Ohio to Skip and Marilyn Susan (Turner) Fox. Christi married Dennis H. Burns on May 30, 1992 in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband of nearly thirty-two years, Christi is survived by her son, Ryan Burns and Sarah Buckman of Mount Vernon; daughter, Rachel Burns and Stephen Dehart of Dix; brother, Chip Fox and wife, Meredith of Mount Vernon; sister, Carrie Fox of Mount Vernon; father and mother-in-law, Dennis W. and Debbie Burns of Mount Vernon; brothers-in-law, Dustin Burns and wife, Chelsi of Bonnie and Derek Burns of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Dawn Wilderman and husband, Brent of Nason, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Christi was preceded in death by grandparents.
Christi was very excited for her first granddaughter, Shiloh in August. She could not wait to be known as MiMi. Her childhood dream was to have her own restaurant which she accomplished. Christi owned and operated Christi’s Little Red Barn in Wayne City. She enjoyed working many years at McDonalds and was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Christi loved her chocolate labs and enjoyed spending time with her family on the pontoon boat or going to the beach.
A Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Christi’s honor to Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
