James L. Welty, 66, of Fairfield

James L. Welty, 66, of Fairfield, passed away at 12:50pm on Monday, June 24, 2024, at his home.

Jim was born on June 27, 1957, in Jacksonville, FL, to Dee and Willene (Lett) Welty. On March 31, 2007, he married the love of his life, Debra (Gottfried) Welty, who preceded him in death in May, 2024.
In his younger years, Jim had worked for the City of Fairfield light plant. Later on, he was a self-employed carpenter and handyman. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his mother Willene Welty of Cisne, two sons Justin (Kaitie Hostettler) Welty of Fairfield and Ryan (Amber) Welty of New London, MO, a step-daughter Krista (Steven) Atteberry of Fairfield, seven grandchildren Hunter Welty, Jarrett Welty, Jama Welty, Jonovan Welty, Lily Hostettler, Connor Atteberry, and Ella Atteberry, a brother Mark Welty of Carmi, IL, two sisters Gwen (Bruce) Troyer of Fairfield, and Lisa (Jan) Ridgely of Parkersburg, IL, a brother-in-law Craig (Pat) Gottfried of Fairfield, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, his wife Debra, and an infant son Joshua Welty.

Jim’s body is being cremated. There will be a celebration of life, hosted by the family, at 4pm on Friday, June28th at the Geff Christian Church. Visitation will be from 3pm until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home to help with cremation expenses and will be accepted during the service at the church or at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
