In the latest USDA Illinois Crop Progress Report released yesterday (Tuesday), it was noted that there were an average of 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois last week. The statewide average temperature was 56.7 degrees, which is 6.0 degrees above normal. Illinois experienced an average precipitation of 0.64 inches, which is 0.18 inches below normal.
As of Sunday, corn harvested in the state reached 95%, exceeding the 5-year average of 81%. Soybean harvest also hit 95%, compared to a 5-year average of 87%. Winter wheat planting stood at 92% (above the 5-year average of 87%), with 69% of winter wheat emerged (compared to the 5-year average of 62%).
Farmers in the downstate region report that nearly all local soybeans have been harvested, with just over 90% of corn shelled. As the fall harvest continues in southeastern Illinois, all are reminded to prioritize safety.
