Sadarius C. Turner, a 25-year-old from Atlanta, GA, is currently in custody following a high-speed chase last Thursday that began in Washington County and ended with a crash on I-57 near Benton. Turner faces charges of Reckless Driving and Aggravated Fleeing and Attempting to Elude after leading law enforcement at speeds of up to 100 mph. He is also being held on 11 felony fraud warrants from Virginia.

The incident started when the Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported that Turner fled from a felony stop. Deputies attempted to stop him on I-57 in Jefferson County but he refused and continued to weave through traffic. His vehicle ultimately crashed after striking several other vehicles, prompting a response from multiple law enforcement agencies.

While Turner fled on foot into the woods, his passenger was apprehended at the crash site and later hospitalized at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken to jail. Turner was eventually caught by a Johnston City officer and received medical treatment for his crash-related injuries before being booked into jail. The Illinois State Police are conducting an investigation into the crash, and further charges may arise from Williamson County or the State Police.
