Bobby Sloan “Bob” Prince, 94, of McLeansboro, IL passed away

Bobby Sloan “Bob” Prince, 94, of McLeansboro, IL passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.  Bob was born on August 21, 1930 in Thackeray, IL to Ralph & Teresa (Sloan) Prince.  On July 4, 1949 he married Doris Jean (Taylor) Prince, who preceded him in death.  They were blessed with 72 years of marriage.

Bob owned & operated Prince Insurance Agency and Prince Real Estate in McLeansboro for many years.  He was very active in the community, and was a member of several local organizations.  He was a member of the Hamilton County Historical Society, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hamilton Lodge #191, a precinct committeeman & chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Party, a founding member of the Hamilton County Saddle Club, and a founding member of the Hamilton County Bottle Club.  He served on the board of the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro, the Saline Valley Water District, the Flora Bank & Trust, and served for 60 years on the board for Peoples National Bank.  He was a member and a deacon at the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro, and was the sound man for The Good News Singers.

Bob was known as an F.D.R. Democrat.  He enjoyed hunting, collecting pocket knives, riding horses, and raising miniature ponies.  He also enjoyed making models of several local buildings, including many homes and businesses.  He loved attending school events & sporting events for his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.

Bob is survived by a daughter Pam Ingram-Neff & husband Earl of McLeansboro, a son Greg Prince & wife Angel of Carbondale, IL; 6 grandchildren: Heather (Brian) Lux, Kyle (Tiffany) Ingram, Bobbie (Artie) Malchert, Erin (Brett) Laswell, Caroline Neff, and Charlotte Bohlebor; 8 great-grandchildren: Carli Lux, Drew Lux, Kloey Ingram, Laila Malchert, Ben Malchert, Kale Laswell, Matthew Laswell, and Hugh Bohlebor, and another on the way; and a niece Ladonna Bittenbender.

He was preceded in death by both parents Ralph & Teresa Prince, his wife Doris Jean Prince, his son-in-law Carl Ingram, and his brother Bertis Prince.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services for Bobby Sloan “Bob” Prince will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in McLeansboro with Greg Prince and Alan Monroe officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral service at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fox Meadows Supportive Living and will be accepted at the church or at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
