Starting January 1, Illinois employers will be mandated to provide pay stubs to their employees with each pay period. These pay stubs must include details such as hours worked, pay rates, overtime pay, and any deductions from wages.
Illinois Department of Labor Director Jane Flanagan stated, “This law gives employees greater transparency about their earnings, allowing workers to verify their hours, income, and deductions.”
Under Public Act 103-0953, employers are required to retain a copy of each employee’s pay stub for three years from the payment date, regardless of the employee’s current employment status. Employees or former employees can request copies of their pay stubs at least twice within a 12-month period.
