Captain Nathan Douglas, Commander of the Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 9, announced the outcomes of the Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols conducted in Effingham and Wayne counties throughout December. These patrols aimed to prevent, detect, and enforce violations related to impaired driving and the illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol and drugs.

During this period, troopers issued a total of 10 citations and provided 25 warnings. The violations included 15 for speeding, 9 for registration issues, 3 for insurance violations, 2 related to driver’s licenses, and 2 for other alcohol or drug offenses.

In Illinois, alcohol and drug impairment is estimated to contribute to more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes. Nationwide, there is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes. The ACE program empowers officers to intensify efforts to remove dangerous DUI offenders from the roads. This initiative is funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
