Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon has made a significant investment in minimally invasive technology for lung biopsies, aimed at enhancing patient care in Southern Illinois. The hospital has acquired a state-of-the-art endoluminal system, a robotic-assisted platform designed for minimally invasive lung biopsy procedures.

This advanced system addresses a key challenge in lung biopsies by enabling physicians to collect tissue samples from deep within the lung. It features an ultra-thin, highly maneuverable catheter that allows for navigation deep into the peripheral lung, providing unprecedented stability and precision compared to traditional manual techniques.

SSM Health is dedicated to delivering the highest quality care and is proud to lead in the field of lung biopsies, particularly given that lung cancer is the most common cancer in the Southern Illinois region. For those at risk of lung cancer or for more information about lung biopsies, please contact the SSM Health Medical Group Pulmonology at 618-899-4000.
