Thursday, Wabash County 911 received a call reporting a disturbance at 229 N. Main St. in Bellmont. While the deputy was enroute, the male suspect fled in a blue passenger car heading north on E 400 Rd. The deputy soon spotted the vehicle, which was speeding erratically eastbound on Highway 15. As the deputy crested a hill, he saw the blue car had crashed just east of the intersection of Highway 15 and E 700 Rd. (Maud Rd.), on the south side of the highway.

When the deputy arrived on scene, he found the male suspect actively kicking out the back window of the car. After the man exited the vehicle, the deputy attempted to confront him, but the man was visibly upset, confrontational, and out of control, smoking a cigarette. As the deputy tried to communicate, the man began stripping off his clothes, inquiring about the deputy’s branch of service, and threw his cigarette at him. Officers from the Mt. Carmel Police Department soon arrived to assist.

The man refused to follow law enforcement’s instructions and began to walk naked in the snow. To ensure everyone’s safety, a taser was deployed, and he was taken into protective custody without further incident.

Throughout the process, the male continued to discuss topics such as Jesus, Donald Trump, and nuclear war, while also threatening to take the officers’ guns and shoot them. He was eventually transported to Wabash General Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
