The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office recently announced that they have returned nearly $299 million in missing funds in 2024, according to Treasurer Michael Frerichs. Through the I-CASH program, over 331,000 claims were processed, with an average payout of $902.

Treasurer Frerichs emphasized that simplifying claims and using technology, such as automatic payments and the Enhanced Money Match program, has increased efficiency. Notably, $13.2 million was returned to 140,000 individuals automatically last fall.

Since Frerichs took office, annual claims have surged from 60,000 to over 300,000, with over $2.2 billion returned to Illinois residents. Efforts include a Spanish-language website and features like “Friends and Family Share” to help more people reclaim funds.

Residents are encouraged to check for unclaimed property at icash.illinoistreasurer.gov, as over $5 billion remains unclaimed.
