Bob F. Green, 96, of Ellery, passed away at Villas of Holly Brook in Mt. Carmel, Illinois at 8:35 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025.
He was a lifelong farmer, operating a livestock and grain farm.
Bob was born March 16, 1928 in Wayne County, near Ellery, Illinois to Clarence and Katie Fisher Green. Following the death of his parents when he was 8 years old, he and his three brothers barely escaped the Orphan Train, when a neighbor heard the arrangements made on a wall telephone and notified their grandparents. Bob then lived with his grandparents, John and Martha Green until age 12 and then lived with his Uncle Charlie and Fannie Fisher of Ellery.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Betty Evans, of Albion. They shared 73 wedding anniversaries. He was an active member of the Ellery Christian Church, a member of the Edwards County School Board, a member of the Edwards County Farm Bureau and then Wayne County Farm Bureau. He served as past president of the Wayne County Livestock Co-Op.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and telling stories of childhood days.
Survivors include his wife Betty, daughter Mary (Lawrence) Hurley of Ellery, sons David (Shelly) Green of Mahomet, IL, Philip Green of Fairfield, IL, daughter-in-law Kathy (Alan) Green of Wilmington, NC, sister-in-law Betty (Archie) Green of Jacksonville, AR. 7 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Alan Green, daughter-in-law Bobbie (Philip) Green, six brothers, Deletis Green, John Franklin Green, Teddy Ray Green, Max Green, Jack Green, Archie Green, two sisters, Edith Lamar and Elsie Johnson, his foster parents, Charlie and Fannie Fisher and their daughters, Elizabeth Baskett, Edythe Proctor, and Evalyn Cooksey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Albion. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice or the Ellery Christian Church and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion.
