Donald S. Taylor, 86, of Grayville, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born on Thursday, March 10,1938 in Mill Shoals the son of Clarence and Nell (Thackrey) Taylor. On February 14, 1987, Don married Nina Faye Bassett at Northside Missionary Baptist Church in Grayville, and together they shared over 37 years of marriage.
Don was a man of integrity who had a strong work ethic. he spent his career working as an auto mechanic both for others and at his own shop. Don was a man of faith and a member of Antioch General Baptist Church in Mill Shoals and also later attended Northside Missionary Baptist Church in Grayville. He was a Veteran of the United States Army where he honorably served his country. Don was a member and past commander of Albion-Browns American Legion Post # 590. He enjoyed camping, fishing and working jigsaw puzzles and especially like doing these things with his family who he loved very much.
In addition to His wife Nina Faye Taylor of Grayville, Don is survived by, his children, Kent (Rose) McTaggart of Mt. Carmel, Nina (Denny) Dunn of Fairfield, Sherrie (Daniel) Bowland of Grayville and Rita Legg of Warsaw, MO; grandchildren, Robert Bowland, Selena Bowland, Jason Winter, Ryan (Mandy) Pearce, Lauren (Lucas) Griswold, Jaclyn (Jake) Pearce, Mike (Rebecca) Seibert, Kenneth (Gwen) McTaggart, Christopher (Heather) Rogers, Robin Rogers, Sarah (Kenton) James, Cynthia Parsley and John Henry McTaggart; 24 great- grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Lena McTaggart; sister, Alberta Andrews and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John McTaggart, a son-in-law, Perry Legg, sisters, Dorothy, Nora, Jewel Maxine, and brothers, Loren, Clarence Jr, Robert, George, and Bill.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in the chapel at Roberts and Cook Funeral Service, 211 North First Street, Grayville, IL, with Pastor Bob Pollard Officiating. Interment will follow at West Antioch Cemetery in Mill Shoals with full military honors accorded by members of The Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team, Carmi American Legion Post # 224 and Carmi VFW Post # 3851. Family and friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Roberts and Cook Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
