President Donald Trump has officially fired Rachelle Aud Crowe, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, effective February 18. Crowe was among several “Biden Era” U.S. Attorneys targeted for dismissal by Trump. Following her termination, Ali M. Summers has stepped in as the Acting U.S. Attorney for the district.

In her statement regarding her departure, Crowe expressed gratitude for her time in office, saying, “It has been an honor to serve the Southern District of Illinois as the United States Attorney. Announcing my departure accompanies many emotions, but my heart is full of gratitude.”

Crowe, a former Illinois State Senator, was nominated by President Joe Biden in April 2022 and sworn in on June 21, 2022. Before her appointment, she was a prosecutor with the Madison County State’s Attorney’s office and was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2018 as a Democrat.
