The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is actively looking for campground hosts for the upcoming 2025 camping season at state parks, recreation areas, and historic sites throughout Illinois. This opportunity includes locations such as Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area in Franklin County and the Hamilton County State Fish and Wildlife Area.
Campground hosting is an ideal role for those who love camping and enjoy assisting others. Hosts are typically the first point of contact for visitors at state parks. Their responsibilities include monitoring arrivals and departures, issuing camping permits, familiarizing campers with park facilities and regulations, answering questions about local and statewide attractions, and helping visitors plan their outings.
As a perk, campground hosts enjoy free camping in their own RVs, motor homes, or trailers at designated spots within the state parks.
“Above all, the most important quality for campground hosts is a passion for working with the public,” stated Calvin Beckmann, chief of parks and recreation for IDNR. “If hosting sounds appealing to you, we would love to hear from you.”
Interested individuals can complete and submit a campground host program packet. For any questions, please reach out to the superintendent at the relevant site.
