Clarence Devon Bennett, 84, of Wayne City

Clarence Devon Bennett, 84, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Deaconess Illinois Crossroads Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Clarence was born June 18, 1940 in Elkhart, IN to Timothy “Dale” Bennett & Ophie (Whittaker) Bennett.  On May 29, 1960 he married Nelda “Irene” Bennett, who preceded him in death on February 21, 2024.

Clarence worked as a diesel mechanic, truck driver, and farmer.  He was a member of the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church.  He loved collecting and working on antique tractors, going to auctions, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and going to the Dahlgren and Wayne City coffee shops to visit with friends.

Clarence is survived by a son Clarence Bennett Jr. & significant other Angela Dickey of Texas, a daughter Janice Williams & significant other Bruce Shepard of Dongola, IL; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren: Max Cone, Catherine Elizabeth Cone, and Merrick Hester; a brother Donald Bennett & wife Treva of Wayne City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dale & Ophie Bennett, his wife Irene Bennett, and an infant son Jimmy Lee Bennett.

Funeral services for Clarence Devon Bennett will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the Olive Branch Missionary Baptist Church south of Wayne City with Bro. Steve Hamson officiating.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at the church.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Baltimore Cemetery across from the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and will be accepted at the church or at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
