Shirley Dianne (Lichtenberger) Miller, age 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family at her home in Fairfield, IL, at 12:56am on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025.

Shirley was born on September 21, 1950, to Robert and Wilma (Hooper) Lichtenberger at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Fairfield, IL. On July 19, 1969, she married the love of her life, Ronald Miller. The two brought three children into this world and loved them so well. Shirley was baptized and joined the Fairfield First Christian Church on November 4, 1973. It was here that she taught Sunday school classes, Wednesday night classes, and co-chaired women’s circles. In 2011, she felt a strong calling to start the Grief Share program at the church after dealing with the 2001 loss of her loving husband. Because of her obedience to this call, she was able to connect with and help so many individuals in our community through the grieving process.

Shirley was an active member of our community. She was a charter member of the Gamma Chi sorority and was also a member of the Amicum sorority. For years she flawlessly balanced life as a homemaker with 3 active children while working as a secretary for the family business at Miller and Sons Plumbing and Heating. After her husband’s passing, she proudly served as Fairfield’s City Collector for 16 years. After her retirement, Shirley’s hobbies centered mainly around spending time with her family and friends. She loved whatever sport or activity her grandchildren were a part of. Eight grandchildren kept her busy with travel to Louisville, Poseyville, Fairfield, and beyond.

Shirley leaves behind a legacy for her family and friends of so many life lessons. These lessons are vast and vary from her example of how to live a Christian life, to which knife is best used to cut warm brownies. She was a loyal and true friend to so many.

Shirley is survived by her children, Stacie (Christopher) Tucker, Melissa (Cameron) Simpson, Bradley (Valerie) Miller. Eight grandchildren, Paxton Tucker, Madelyn Tucker, Cale Simpson, Miller Simpson, Malori Simpson, Rhett Simpson, Davis Miller, and Ronni Miller. Three brothers. Steven (Sherri) Lichtenberger, Brian (Kimberly) Lichtenberger, and Cory (Judy) Lichtenberger. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the MPR room at the First Christian Church, Fairfield, IL, from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Memorial service to follow. There will be no graveside service at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr Scranton Memorial Fund.

Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements.
