Donald Eugene Sims, 75, of Carmi, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025. He was born on June 1, 1949, in Harrisburg, Illinois, the son of James Hugh and Jane (McSparin) Sims. Donald married Donna Kay Sprague on September 4, 1971, and she survives. He graduated from Crab Orchard High School in 1967, and went on to study at SIU graduating with a Forestry Degree. Donald worked at AMAX Coal Company, Peabody Coal, and most recently at Cantrell Oil Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Carmi, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Point of Light Sunday School class. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA. Donald enjoyed being outside, mowing the lawn and hiking.
In addition to his wife, Donna Sims of Carmi, IL, Donald is survived by his daughters, Katrina (Brandon) Sutton of Eldorado, IL. and Rhonda (Cory) Cantrell of Crossville, IL; grandchildren, Justin Sutton, Autumn Pilkington, Savannah Reeder, Kingston Cantrell and Rigby Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Callan and Caedyn; siblings, Ron Sims and Betty Sims, both of Stonefort, IL; an aunt Marilyn Tanner; mother-in-law, Peggy Robinson of Marion, IL; sisters-in-law, Peggy Sprague and Patti (Dave) Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Donald Sims will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, with burial at Indian Camp Cemetery in Dykersburg, Illinois. Family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to the University of Louisville Burn Center.
