Hamilton County residents are gearing up for the April 1st election with a finalized ballot that includes a mix of contested races and unopposed positions. Notably, there are seventeen contested races across various local offices.
In the Hamilton County Unit 10 School District, four seats are available, with candidates Steve Becker, Andrea Short, Rick Rubenacker, Michael Cunico, and Jeffrey Bowling competing for the positions.
McLeansboro will see incumbent Mayor Chad May challenged by Republican Rodney Campbell and Independent Derrick Hanson as he seeks another four-year term. In the City Council, Ward I Alderman Tom Maulding faces Mike Scattone, while in Ward II, Duke Griesemer aims to unseat incumbent Thomas Murks. Ward III’s Jeff Johnson will contend with Jody Braden.
Dahlgren features a race for the Fire Protection District with Justin Hase and Artie Karch vying for a six-year term.
In Broughton, residents can choose between incumbent Mayor David Essary and challenger Robert Fletcher. The Village Clerk position is contested as Lisa Essary faces Brenda Griffin. Additionally, three Trustee positions are open, with Carolyn Pruitt competing against five candidates: Laura Alley, Delaney Bandy, David Young, Christopher Flynn, and Fred Gholson.
Belle Prairie has a single contested position for Village Trustee, where voters can choose between Staci McGill and Megan Link.
Beaver Creek Township will have four Trustee seats contested, with Caleb Miller, Nathan Birkner, and Jake Welch competing against Chad Flannigan and Justin Woodrow.
Highway Commissioner races are happening in several townships. In McLeansboro, incumbent Democratic Commissioner Bob Drake is challenged by Republican Wesley Renn. Beaver Creek Township sees Republican Seth Thomas contesting Democrat Vuel York, while Twigg Township features Democrat Johnny Green against Republican James Stewart. In Mayberry, Republican Christopher Dorris and Democrat David Essary are newcomers vying for the position.
Voters in Twigg and Mayberry have multiple candidates to choose from for vacant seats. Twigg Township’s ballot includes Democrats Gerald Skelton, Ashley McPeak, and Richard Clevenger competing against Republicans Dave Harmon, Laura Lee, Jody Gray, and Ron Smith. Mayberry’s election features a larger field with eight candidates: Democrats John Anderson, Cody Essary, Kayla Essary, and Lisa Essary, and Republicans Savannah Dorris, Shannon Hankins, Michael Knight, and Brandon Pool.
