The Illinois Lottery reports that time is running out for an unclaimed Powerball ticket worth $100,000, purchased nearly a year ago at a gas station in Centralia. Illinois Comptroller Suzana Mendoza is warning residents to be vigilant against tax scams. Her office reports that con artists are impersonating IRS employees and contacting individuals via text, email, or phone, soliciting personal information. Some calls threaten taxpayers, insisting they must send money immediately to resolve issues with their tax returns. February in Illinois is known for its cold weather, but it also often brings significant day-to-day temperature fluctuations. The Illinois State Water Survey at the University of Illinois in Champaign reports that milder temperatures in the first and last weeks of February set 24 daily high maximum temperature records across the state, along with 15 daily high minimum temperature records. Conversely, extreme cold in mid-February resulted in 53 daily high minimum temperature records and 32 daily low minimum temperature records. Overall, while February was cold, it was not one of the coldest on record. The preliminary statewide average temperature was 28.7 degrees, 2.7 degrees below the 1991-2000 average, ranking as the 52nd coldest February since 1895. The average winter temperature from December to February was 28.2 degrees, marking it the 56th coldest winter on record in Illinois.

 

 

 

The Illinois State Police will host its first-ever all-women recruitment event this month to encourage women to explore career opportunities as sworn police officers and civilian employees. The ISP Academy in Springfield will be open for this free event on Tuesday, March 18, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
