A White County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a crash while responding to an emergency call on Tuesday.

On Tuesday,  the White County Sheriff’s Department and White County Ambulance were en route to Phillipstown following reports of a juvenile injured in an ATV accident.

While traveling on IL Route 1, the deputy’s vehicle collided with another car. The impact caused the deputy to lose control, striking a culvert before going airborne and rolling multiple times before coming to a stop.

Emergency responders from the White County Sheriff’s Department, Carmi Police Department, and Norris City Police Department arrived at the scene. The deputy sustained multiple abrasions but no life-threatening injuries and was transported to Deaconess Hospital for evaluation. The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were unharmed but visibly shaken.

Sheriff Weiss later confirmed that the deputy suffered a fractured collarbone. He has since been released from the hospital and is expected to recover.
