JEFFERSON COUNTY WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FIRST-DEGREE MURDER FOR RUNNING OVER HER HUSBAND

Melissa Howes, a woman from Jefferson County, has pled guilty in Jefferson County Circuit Court  to first-degree murder and aggravated DUI following an incident in which she ran over her husband in a store parking lot in Dix, Illinois. The incident occurred in September 2024, and her husband later died at the hospital.  As part of her plea agreement, Howes accepted a 20-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections and is currently held in Jefferson County Jail awaiting transfer. Authorities indicated that evidence suggested she was impaired by alcohol at the time of the incident.
