The Wayne County Board met in regular session last (Thursday) night in the upstairs courtroom of the Wayne County Courthouse.
Dennis Seidel from the Highway Department presented four items including engineering agreements for bridges in Orel and Four Mile Townships. He reported a successful bridge bid in Orchard Township that came in 13-14% under estimate with six contractors bidding. Also it was discussed by Seidel on appropriating Motor Fuel Tax Funds for the payment of the salary and expenses for the County Engineer.
Wayne County State’s Attorney, Kyle Ellis reported progress on the solar ordinance issue and animal control contract. He mentioned working with the Wayne County Farm Bureau and hopes to have a proposed ordinance ready for the committee’s next meeting.
Board Vice Chairman, Gene Kollak reported of behalf of the Sheriff’s committee noted new vests were donated by the Sheriff’s Department insurance provider.
Wayne County Clerk, Liz Ann Woodrow reported early voting progress with only 14 votes cast since February 26th. Woodrow says her office is open during business hours for early voting leading up to the April 1st election with the last day for early voting on Monday, March 31st.
The Rules and Policy committee is working on developing courthouse-wide policies.
The Economic Development committee reported on a new loan for the business, Six Juan Eight with terms of 7 years at 4% interest.
Wayne County Treasurer, Yvette Anderson says her office is working toward implementing new financial software and ongoing training.
The Building and Grounds committee discussed a major HVAC project for the courthouse, proposing to break it into phases. The first phase was approved for $48,000 using ARPA funds with the work staying local and will be installed by Haye’s Plumbing & Heating of Fairfield.
Board member, Eddie Barbre questioned Supervisor of Assessments, Jodi Poole on the assessment of the property west of Fairfield on the proposed new Comfort Inn & Suites hotel to be built by a developer from St. Louis. Poole says the initial assessment was for a much larger building than what was proposed. Poole says Fairfield Mayor, Gary Moore has been provided with updated assessment figures.
Jeff Jake from the Wayne County Health Department says Administrator, Nicole Schoenborn will be working on the e-waste program this month with a target date in April to have an e-waste collection. Jake also reported on Wayne County Emergency Management and his department is dealing with is at the AT&T tower on SW 7th St. that has been down for several weeks. His agency noticed that about three weeks ago when they had no service to AT&T customers. His agency was able to bring in a portable tower with a 40 ft mast which is now active and stationed in Southwest Park with no time given as to when the main tower will be repaired.
