The Village of Mill Shoals held their monthly meeting this week. One of the hot issues from last month’s meeting was the need for a part-time police officer.
During Tuesday’s meeting, President Gray introduced Officer Justin Titzer. Village Trustee Josh West initiated the question and answer with Officer Titzer by asking him what he could offer the Village from a policing standpoint. Officer Titzer was quick to point out that Mill Shoals was seen as a geographic haven for criminals on the lamb, sex offenders not in compliance, and other possible criminal activity. Theft, drugs, various criminal offenses, and ordinance violations were further discussed.
Additionally, the Board and Officer Titzer spoke on issues such as 911 dispatch, possible agreement with White County Sheriff’s Office, a police car, equipment needed, badge, badge number, insurance, police manual, and risk management.
The Village decided to hire Officer Titzer to primarily serve ordinance citations until a contract could be created by the Village Attorney and the above aforementioned issues could be worked out. The vote was 6-0 on the hiring of the officer.
