SEVERE STORMS REPORTED IN THE REGION SUNDAY AFTERNOON & EVENING

A line of storms moved through the area and region Sunday afternoon and evening bringing lots of high winds, hail, rain and some tornado watches.  The entire region had an enhanced level 3 out of 5 severe weather risk for Sunday afternoon and into the evening hours with storms exiting the region late Sunday night.  Wayne County appears to have missed the brunt of the storms.

 

 

Weather reports of large hail with some tree damage and some structural damage were reported in far Southern Illinois.   Power outages were also an issue as hundreds were out, hitting Alexander County the hardest with more than 700 out by 8:30pm.  Also, some structures were damaged north of Olive Branch.  Tree lands on cars with people trapped and were rescued by first responders. No injuries reported.  In Pulaski County, the Century High School gym sustained extensive damage with multiple sheds damaged north of Pulaski.

 

 

In Perry County, 1.75 inch hail was reported northwest of Pinckneyville and golf ball sized hail reported at 4pm and lasted for 8 minutes in Du Quoin.  In Mt. Vernon, 1 inch hail fell for 5 minutes in Mt. Vernon just a little after 4 o’clock.
