SEVERE STORMS SWEEP THROUGH THE REGION WEDNESDAY

Storms on Wednesday caused widespread damage across our region, resulting in countless structures damaged south of the Wayne county area..  Throughout the afternoon and evening, watches and warnings were issued in Wayne and surrounding counties with the brunt of the storms doing the most damage in far Southern Illinois. One home was ripped apart near Goreville. Union County had the worst with outages, having more than 5,000 out at one point.  Reports indicate over 4,000 customers were without power in areas of  Union and Saline County.  Williamson County authorities confirm storm damage in the Creal Springs area with reports of possible tornado damage in Carrier Mills and the Anna-Jonesboro area. Tornado warnings were also issued for the Clay and Marion county area with a report of a tornado on the ground in the Greenville area in Bond County.  Storm damage is also being reported in central Illinois as officials spotted damage in Effingham Cumberland, Clark counties.    There is no word of any injuries.
