MCLEANSBORO CITY COUNCIL MEETING RECAP FROM TUESDAY

The McLeansboro City Council met  for its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night and prior to the meeting, a Public Hearing was held for the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget and Appropriation Ordinance.  No comments received.

 

During the regular meeting, the FY26 Budget and Appropriations were approved, with only minor adjustments made for payroll. Mayor Chad May congratulated Tom Murk for his service as Ward 2 Alderman, noting it was a pleasure to work with him. Murk was defeated in the recent election by Duke Griesemer.

 

In Public Comments, Rodney Campbell, who finished second in the Mayor’s race, was scheduled to speak but did not attend.

 

The Consent Agenda was approved, which included several TIF agreements and requests. Highlights included a façade grant reimbursement of $1,311.05 to Drake Insurance Agency LLC, a redevelopment agreement reimbursement of $9,812.04 to Fox Meadows N.F.P., and agreements for redevelopment with Market Street Bancshares and Bonan, Bonan & Rowland LLC. Airport leases for Fearless Flyers, Bret Vaughan, and David Sutton were also approved without changes. Additionally, city-wide cleanup days were scheduled for May 28th to 30th from 7:45 AM to 3:30 PM, and on May 31st from 7:45 AM to noon.

 

Two part-time summer employees, Brody Barker and Brody Bildebeck, were hired, along with all 14 applicants for pool positions.

 

Mayor May suggested determining Christmas bonuses early, and the board agreed to maintain last year’s amount.

 

An ordinance regulating hobby animals within city limits was approved, allowing for future amendments. Another ordinance was passed to revise zoning regulations, permitting campers as temporary dwellings in emergencies.

 

A proposal to install stop signs on South McClellan at the intersection with East Cherry Street for child safety will be voted on at next month’s meeting.

 

Lastly, discussions were held regarding the Public Works Director Unit and the City Administrator Unit clarification petitions, which include language for union recognition. No action will be taken until the May meeting.
