Harold Ray McDowell, 69, of Crossville and formerly of Carmi

Harold Ray McDowell, 69, of Crossville and formerly of Carmi, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. He was born on Sunday, November 20, 1955, in Fairfield, the son of Charles Ray and Bobbi Jean (Strayhorn) McDowell. On August 30 ,1980, Ray married Jeanie Jolene Atkinson, in Carmi and together they shared over 41 years of marriage before her passing on May 22, 2022.

Ray was a veteran of the United States Navy where he honorably served his country, not long after returning home from the military Ray began his career as a truck driver from which he retired from after 50 years, beginning in the oil field and then continuing driving for Scot Lad Foods and lastly working for Warex.

Ray enjoyed shooting sports, watching his son Damien Race and riding his Honda Shadow and Harley-Davidson Softail. Most important to Ray was his family, he loved spending time together with them over meals and visiting.

Survivors Include, his children and their spouses Dusty and Billy Frashier, Damien and Glenda McDowell and Christian and Linda McDowell; grandchildren, Darrian, Keiona, Kayden, Adrenne, Ariana, Thomas and Steven; several great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Along with his wife Jeanie McDowell Ray was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, in the Chapel at Roberts and Cook Funeral Service, 101 Edgewood Lane, Carmi, Illinois with Pastor Kenny Rager officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow immediately at North Maple Ridge Cemetery in Carmi. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Roberts and Cook Funeral Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
