The Fairfield Community High School (FCHS) Board of Education held its regular meeting last (Wednesday) night during which several important actions were taken. The meeting included the administration of the Oath of Office to newly elected members Steve Baker and Lori Ellis, as well as recognition of retiring members Jeremy Carter and Gayle McGehee for their years of dedicated service.
The meeting began with the Board approving the consent agenda and the Board officially certified the election results from April 1st.
The Board nominated and elected Matt Rush as President Pro-Tem, Kim King as Secretary, and Matt Rush as President of the Board. Nate Carter was nominated and approved as Vice-President, and Matt Rush was also designated as the delegate to the upcoming School Board Convention.
The board approved multiple financial and operational items, including designating Fairfield National Bank, People’s National Bank, and Edward Jones Investments as recognized depositories, with specific approval for Fairfield National Bank as the district’s checking account depository (with abstention from Matt Rush). Jerd Smith was approved as District Treasurer, and the district’s policy manual and Roberts’ Rules of Order were adopted to guide meetings.
The official meeting date and time were set for the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., with exceptions on November 17, 2025, and June 23, 2026. The board also approved the new SRO contract with the City of Fairfield for the next three school years, the FY26 District Consolidated Plan, and the cooperative milk bid from Prairie Farms.
Rehiring actions included Macie Clark as a long-term substitute and all fall and winter coaches. The board also approved a tentative addendum to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement and accepted the resignation of Holden August, effective April 30th.
The meeting concluded with a presentation on this year’s CEO Program by students Sarah Rush, Hannah Fickas, and Ava Isle. The board also approved the rehiring of various coaches for fall and winter sports, including cross country, tennis, football, swimming, cheerleading, basketball, wrestling, and competitive cheer.
