WAYNE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING:
Dave Rigg, host of the Gospel Time radio program and local historian, will present stories from Edwards and Wayne counties at the Wayne County Historical Society monthly meeting on Thursday, July 20 at 6 p.m. in the reading room of the Fairfield Public Library.
Rigg, who operates Gospel Time Ministries, Inc. is a minister and radio professional who has a long-time interest in history. It has become a serious hobby for him after his retirement. He regularly posts local history stories on his “Dave Rigg” Facebook pages. Some of his recent Facebook features include the story of an undelivered Civil War letter, the legend of a buried treasure near Browns, Illinois, the Abel Green “dynamite” grave in Maple Hill Cemetery, and the banks in Albion, Illinois. “Wayne County was created out of a section of Edwards County, so our histories have overlapped from the early 1800s,” notes Judith Puckett, Wayne County Historical Society president. “We are pleased to have Dave Rigg share from his various research projects on either county. We will all learn some entertaining tidbits from him”. This public program is open to any interested person and is free.
