The Wayne City Village Board met for a 20 minute session Monday Evening at Village Hall.
During reports, it was learned the Wayne City Ambulance that was damaged by hitting a deer was off to the body shop. Officials say the ambulance sustained $4,000 in damage. It was also mentioned that officials with Wayne City Ambulance wanted to have some restoration work done to the ambulance while it was being repaired. The restoration work was estimated to be around $3,276.84. Later in the meeting, the village board approved up to $4,000 to restore the ambulance.
In other business, the board heard that because of the previous paint job on the water tower, the tower will have to be sandblasted before a new paint job is completed. The estimate for the work was around $307,000. Village officials will be looking into grants to cover the cost. Meanwhile, the village will look to have the work done next year. A loan was discussed, but no action was taken on the matter.
Under old business, the board ultimately took no action on a resolution to donate towards the Fairfield Recreation Committee for the Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. With the board taking no action on the matter, it was killed.
Also under old business, the City is continuing to work on acquiring the deed to the old Shell Food Mart and Hotel on Highway 15. According to Police Chief Fenton, they are awaiting hearing from the village attorney before proceeding.
Under new business, the board approved the Bean Day Parade as well as a resolution for maintenance under the Illinois Highway Code.
