Wayne County Board Recap from 9/12

The Wayne County Board met for their September meeting last night at the courthouse.

Humane Society representatives Michelle Richards and Kris Parrent addressed the board, stating that they were receiving reports of issues, but had not been notified of any specific complaints by the board. They requested that going forward, any issues be reported to the Society so they can address any problems with staff or responses to animal complaints.

Bedford Fire Chief Josh Smith addressed the board to explain the First Responder program that is being formed in the Cisne area. With the demise of the North Wayne Ambulance, Smith stated that the fire department is planning to step up and fill some of the void created by not having an ambulance service. Chief Smith stated that they currently have 12 First Responders with plans to add more in the near future.

County Highway Engineer Dennis Seidel reported that a final inspection of the 161 project to the Marion County line has been conducted and the project is complete. He also informed the board that work was completed on the northbound approach to 161 from Enterprise Road.

Sheriff Chris Otey reported that his department was prepared for the implementation of No Cash Bail in Illinois. He also informed the board that some major theft arrests have been made and he has awarded Life Saving Awards to 2 deputies, who performed life saving CPR on a heart attack victim.

County Clerk Lizann Woodrow informed the board that petitions are now available for the upcoming general election. The filing period for the petitions in November 27 to December 4. Petitions and further information may be obtained at the County Clerk’s Office. The board authorized pay raises for election judges and County Clerk Woodrow said that she can always use new judges for elections.

The board authorized an ARPA request of $1,000 for the Wayne County Health Department building to seal leaking exterior windows.

The board discussed turning their Business Development Loan Program over to FNB for management and promotion. The States Attorney will review the details and report back at the October meeting.
