Caleb Stevens of West Salem, IL and Virgil Jansen of Montrose, IL are the two recipients of the Earl R. Pottorff Memorial Scholarship for this academic year.

The late Earl Pottorff was born in Fairfield before building a successful 37-year career with Commonwealth Edison Company, the largest electric utility company in Illinois, serving Chicago and other northern regions of the state. Earl and his wife Lorraine settled in Fairfield following his retirement, where he lived until his passing in 2012. Lorraine established the scholarship in December 2012 to honor Earl and help others begin a career in the public utility field.

The Frontier Community College Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS) program starts in August of each year with registration opening in March. The EDS program is a one-year certification curriculum that provides training in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Students also learn safe practices, pole climbing, hurt man rescue, and equipment operation.
