The frequency of and damages caused by severe storms and other natural and man-made hazards in White County will be discussed when the White County Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee meets at the Floral Hall at the White County Fairgrounds in Carmi. That meeting will take place at 6 pm on Monday, December 11.
The committee is comprised of County, township, municipal, education, and fire protection district representatives, as well as technical partners and other stakeholders. They will be meeting over the next several months to update the White County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan. All Committee meetings are open to the public.
The focus of this effort is on natural hazards such as severe thunderstorms with damaging winds or hail, tornadoes, snow and ice storms, floods, drought, and excessive heat. Those interested can provide input at these meetings or submit their comments and questions to their appropriate representatives.
Participants to date include the County, Carmi, Carmi Township, Crossville, Enfield, Grayville, Hawthorne Township, Heralds Prairie Township, Little Wabash Fire Protection District, Norris City Fire Protection District, Norris City, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield CUSD #3, and Phillips Township.
