A retired judge believes the courts should decide whether former President Donald Trump should be removed from Illinois’ primary ballot in March. Trump’s lawyers and citizens seeking to keep him off the ballot presented their arguments Friday before hearing officer Clark Erickson. The retired longtime Kankakee County judge said its clear Trump engaged in insurrection in the January 6th U.S. Capitol attack in 2021. He recommended that Trump should be removed from Illinois’ primary ballot, but the state’s election board shouldn’t be in charge of making that decision. The Illinois State Board of Elections is expected to consider the recommendation tomorrow.
