Authorities in Saline County are currently investigating a disturbing swatting incident that unfolded recently. The incident began with a misleading phone call received by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday night around 8:15 PM. The caller falsely claimed to have shot and killed his father, adding that he was armed, barricaded in a residence near Carrier Mills High School, and prepared to harm any law enforcement officer who responded.
In response to the call, a coordinated effort involving Saline County Sheriff’s deputies, Carrier Mills Police Department, Illinois State Police, Illinois Conservation Police, and Harrisburg Police Department swiftly mobilized to the area. A command post was set up in the high school parking lot, and a perimeter was established around the purported location of the suspect. Subsequently, law enforcement officers conducted a thorough search of an unoccupied residence before determining that the area was safe. Normal operations were then resumed.
Police Chief Scott Isaacs clarified that this incident was a malicious act of swatting, involving the dissemination of false information that triggers a significant response from emergency services. Swatting is considered a serious felony offense under the law.
The investigation into this swatting incident is ongoing, with authorities committed to pursuing the case to the fullest extent of the law. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Carrier Mills Police Department at 618-994-4411 or 618-252-8661.
