Partners for Conservation Funding Bill

By Mark Wells Aug 5, 2024 | 10:05 AM

State Senator Chapin Rose is actively working as a co-sponsor of a crucial bill that aims to reverse the $4 million decrease in funding through the Partners for Conservation Fund. This response comes in light of the significant funding cut for Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) in the Fiscal Year 2025 budget.

Senator Rose has voiced his concerns, highlighting the implications of Governor Pritzker’s decision to cut $4 million in funding for Soil & Water Conservation Districts. He emphasized the pivotal role that this agency plays in environmental protection efforts, stressing the importance of reinstating this funding to uphold environmental preservation, ensure clean water, and promote sustainable agricultural practices for the well-being of our state and future generations.

Senate Bill 3964, co-sponsored by Senator Rose, directly addresses this urgent issue by restoring the necessary funds through the Partners for Conservation Fund.

The $4 million reduction in Soil & Water Conservation District funding in the FY25 budget poses a notable threat to the districts’ ability to address soil erosion, improve water quality, and sustain agricultural practices. The lack of funding jeopardizes the foundation of both our environment and agriculture.
