86 year old Fairfield resident, Deloris “Dee” Harper passed away at Fairfield Memorial Hospital on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Dee was born in White County on September 10, 1937 to Charles and Hazel (O’Dell) Hucker. Dee worked most of her working years at the local Sears & Roebuck store in Fairfield until it finally closed. Dee was for years an active member of the Fairfield First Christian Church where she helped with the youth as a youth sponsor and also enjoyed singing in the choir. She was happily married to Leonard Harper for over 40 years. For the past several years Dee resided at Aperion Care in Fairfield.
Dee is survived by her children; Sherrie (Roger) Turpin of Albion, Illinois and Richard (Susan) Harris of Wichita, Kansas. 4 stepchildren; Allen, Cathy, Cara and Matthew. 5 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 on the way, along with numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, her siblings; Dorothy (Jim) Meritt of Fairfield, Doris Wheeler of Grayville, Doyle (Toby) Hucker of Fairfield and brother-in-law Roger Harper, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Hazel Hucker, her husband; Leonard Harper, brother-in-law; Kent Wheeler, one step daughter; Connie Hosmer and grand daughter, Emily Hosmer.
Funeral services for Deloris “Dee” Harper will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2024 at Nale’s Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 9:00 a.m. to service time. In lieu of flowers or a monetary donation the family would like to encourage everyone, in Dee’s memory, to do an act of kindness for someone in the nursing home.
