The governor has signed into law legislation regarding “farmer’s markets” that was introduced in the House by State Representative Blaine Wilhour.
Under SB2617, if a county lacks a local health department or if their health department does not issue the necessary licenses, the county government is required to establish an agreement with a neighboring local health department to oversee the registration of cottage food operations within the county.
This initiative was prompted by a constituent who runs a cottage food operation. Such operations involve individuals producing food or beverages in a kitchen within their primary residence or a suitably equipped kitchen on a farm.
