Billy Edmond York, 84, of Grayville

Billy Edmond York, 84, of Grayville, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana. He was born August 11, 1940, in Grayville, Illinois, the son of Edmond Ellis York and Rosetta (Mobley) York. He was married to Sharron (Hackney) York on the beach of Gulf Shores, Alabama, on September 8, 2011.

Bill worked his entire career in the Illinois Oil Basin in and around Grayville. He loved his work. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge in Grayville, and he enjoyed travelling, playing poker, lawncare, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Sharron York of Grayville; sons Bill, Jr. (Ann) York of Evansville, Mark (Kristi) York of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; daughters Fawnda (Marvin) Winebarger of Grayville, JaVan (Richard) Sargent of Virginia;

Grandchildren Alex (Vanessa) York, Zachary (Shea) Winebarger, Nicholas (Amanda) Winebarger, Marshall (Holly) Winebarger, Heath (Shamber) Winebarger, Mitchell York, Koltin (Jennie) York, Morgan (Zack) York, Taya York, Dallas (Cassie) Cook, and Mason Cook; numerous great-grandchildren; and the extended family of Sharron York.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wives Jo York and Janet York; and grandson Tanner York.

In keeping with Billy’s wishes, his remains were cremated.

Visitation and funeral service are Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Visitation is at noon and funeral service is at 1 pm. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.

Memorials may be made to the Grayville Senior Citizens and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville, Illinois.
