Norman Ray Carpenter, 78, of Fairfield, passed away at 11:17pm on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Norman was born on July 18, 1946, in Woodlawn, CA, to Rex Carpenter and Sarah (Hiley) Rogers. He was married to Donna (Evans) Carpenter for several years before she preceded him in death in March of 2019. On November 1, 2019, he married Tina (Davis) Chrtt.
Norman had been a designer for Airtex Products in Fairfield until his retirement. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from August 15, 1963, until July 21, 1965, during the Vietnam war. He was very proud to serve his country. He also was very artistic and loved to draw.
Survivors include his wife Tina Chrtt, a son Jeff Carpenter of Sims, two daughter Kim (Donnie) Smothers and Karen (Danny) Barnard, both of Fairfield, eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren, a brother Henry “Butch” (Terri) Dunn of New Haven, IL, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Donna Carpenter, a brother Carl Gene Dunn, and a daughter-in-law Audrey Gifford.
Funeral services for Norman Carpenter will be at 1pm on Wednesday, August 21st, at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the Anthony Wayne Post #176 American Legion and the Wayne County Post #4535 VFW. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made to the Wayne County Quilts of Valor and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
