Starting today (Wednesday), The Wayne City Water Department will be temporarily changing the process by which they disinfect the water supply in Wayne City. Water Superintendent, Kris Shreve says the switch will be from a chloramine (chlorine and ammonia) disinfectant to a free chlorine. By doing this, Shreve says the department is better able to ensure that the water quality will remain stable and bacteria free.
During this process, water customers might notice a stronger smell of chlorine in the tap water, but it will remain safe to drink. Village employees will be periodically flushing hydrants during this process to help change out the water from the mains. Residents might notice some discoloration and or pressure fluctuations during this process. Be sure to check before washing laundry.
The process is expected to take approximately 1 month, then the water department will be switching back to their normal disinfection process. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Wayne City Village Hall.
