The Black Diamond Conference (BDC) has extended a football-only invitation to Red Hill, aiming to restore its status as a 10-team, closed conference. This decision follows two consecutive seasons where Vienna/Goreville was unable to field a varsity football team.
Red Hill currently competes in the Midland Trail and Little Okaw Valley conferences for other sports but has been an independent in football for the past three seasons.
The Salukis departed from the Little Illini Conference after the 2021-22 school year and have since qualified for the Class 1A playoffs in each of the last two seasons.
Historically, Red Hill was part of the North Egypt Conference, where it competed against current BDC members like Carmi-White County, Fairfield, and Flora, before joining the Little Illini in 2001.
Flora and Edwards County, two former Little Illini members, have since moved to the Black Diamond Conference.
If Red Hill accepts the invitation, Vienna and Goreville would both stay in the BDC for other sports, but the co-oped football team would be independent.
