Illinois State Police have released patrol data from various patrols around the region.
During distracted driving patrols in Hamilton and Marion Counties, officers issued 25 citations and 12 warnings. ISP Says that 16 of the 25 citations were based on distracted driving. 14 of the citations were for handheld cell phone usage while 2 were for texting and driving.
During a roadside safety check in Clay County, Illinois State Police Issued 5 citations and 8 warnings. Officials say there were 4 seat belt violations, 1 drivers license violation, one registration violation, and one alcohol or drug citation that was not DUI related
The extra enforcement patrols were made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
